New acrylic undercoats „wet on wet”
04.03.2008 14:34:00
With the coming of spring, Troton introduces new many new products on the market. Apart from ECO LINE products and the priming and filling undercoat, MF 560 5:1 Master, it has to offer for its clients two acrylic undercoats WET ON WET. We discuss their advantages and technology of application with Żaneta Wisłocka, a development department specialist in TROTON Ltd.
What does the specificity of working with WET ON WET undercoats entail?
WET ON WET are two-component acrylic undercoats intended especially for work in the wet on wet system. Varnishes (base and surface) are applied on the surface of unpolished undercoat. This can be achieved thanks to excellent pourability of the undercoat, which has ideally smooth surface after application.
Does the ”wet on wet” slogan mean that the varnish can be applied immediately after applying the undercoat?
Of course, it does not mean that a completely wet undercoat can be varnished. The varnish is applied on an undercoat layer that has set, but has not yet completely hardened. Short drying time is an another advantage of our products. 15-20 minutes after applying the WET ON WET undercoat, surface coats can be applied.
The main advantage of the WET ON WET undercoat is the shortening of varnishing time. It does not only dry quickly, but also does not require polishing.
What is the purpose of WET ON WET undercoats?
These are typical anticorrosve undercoats. They do not have the ability to fill cavities in the substrate, but are ideal for quick painting of new elements. They provide excellent adhesion on many surfaces without the need to polish before the application of colour.
WET ON WET were made so as to have excellent sealing properties and provide good anticorrosive protection. High quality resins and corrosion inhibitors of the latest generation were used in their production.
They prove to be more effective in this field than cheap filling undercoats. They can be easily applied even on bare sheet metal, ensuring at the same time corrosion protection for several years.
The last, but not the least important question: Do acrylic undercoats WET ON WET comply with the European directive on reducing the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in varnish products?
YES, of course. For many years, the company's development has beed directed not only at constant improvement of the quality of TROTON's products, but also closely connected with problems pertaining to reduction of environment pollution. All of our products comply with the norm's requirements, also WET ON WET undercoats. Thew content of volatile organic compounds, in diluted mixture, does not exceed the border value, which is 540g/l for this category of products (B/3).
